My wife and I are planning a trip to Scotland September or October 2015 and would like to see as many of the Macnab sites as we can while we are there. We are planning to be on a tour, but will have some free time while there, which will be about a week. We don’t know the exact dates yet, but would like to see make contact with someone who can guide us to these sites. We are really looking forward to our trip, but the main goal is to take in as much of the family history as possible.

    • I am a registered Blue Badge Tourist Guide Driver Guide and would be delighted to plan a MacNAB Tour for you taking into account your family sites, some ‘must sees’ and other ‘less touristy’ places.
I drive a Mercedes Viano which is extremely comfortable for touring and can suggest accommodations to suit your requirements, anything from bed and breakfast/guest houses to country house hotels or ins and even castles in some places.
Please do get in touch if I can help or you have any other questions.
I assure you of my very best attentions at all times.
      Best wishes
      Margot

        Margot,
Sorry that I just got your reply. I had checked for replies for a few weeks after my original message and, after seeing no reply, assumed there would be none.
My wife and I still have the same plans, but after reading my original message, see that it may have misled you on the amount of time we will actually have to see Macnab sites.
While we will be in Scotland for about a week, we will actually only have one day for Macnab sites. This would be Sept. 20th.
If you are still interested, I would love to hear what we may be able to work out.
        Best wishes,
        Rick

My family and I are planning to attend the gathering in August, 2014. Is there a requirement that we make reservations for the events in advance?

    Thank you.

    Greetings,

My wife and I had the good fortune to be able to visit Killin in May of this year (as the tail-end of a work related trip to Germany). I made several friends while there, and it was then that I learned of the MacNab Clan meeting in August.

Well…although the cost is high, I decided to return in August to meet some of the extended Family! Really looking forward to it.

Just got done booking the flight, car and accommodations (Falls of Dochart Inn). It should be a wonderful week! And…what a way to celebrate my birthday (August 8th).

    Cheers,
    Alan

I am looking for information on the three Abbott brothers: James, Matthew and Thomas. They were said to be McNabb’s who left Scotland for religious freedom in America. The story says they were harbored by an abbott at a monastery in England as they made their way to a seaport. They supposedly took up the Name Abbott as a result of their Gaelic heritage as Clann-an-Aba (children of the Abbot) and their help received from the actual abbot. James Abbott, Senior is my 3rd Great Grandfather. My second GGF (James Jr.)was raised in the Roanoke Virginia area. Our email is: andrea51a@comcast.net. Hope someone could shed some light on this connection. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Sincerely, Peter J. Monahan
